I love rom-coms where both leads have the emotional maturity of toddlers. Lowkey this was one of the things that got me through senior year, was really nice having something fluffy and fun and vaguely science-fictional to come back to when shit got tough. Totally over-the-top but remains so low-stakes the whole time.

I’m mixed on the remake in comparison to the 80s anime or original manga—I love the day-glo color palette and certain adaptation changes but am mixed on others (everything relating to Inaba in particular—I think the vaguely implied fairy-tale elements in both older versions of him being a human boy amongst magical rabbit-people is a lot more interesting and ties into some other stuff with Shinobu better but him just being a dude with an out-there job and uniform with some other equally-human dudes in this version feels more Urusei Yatsura, in a way.) But I still really enjoyed it and am glad I watched it all as it aired (and watched a bunch of the 80s anime, and read the manga…) Gonna watch Beautiful Dreamer this summer to top it all off.
