This show is extremely underrated, people just don't appreciate tv shows like this one, because the art style, the motion dynamics are different from the so famous action packed and greatly detailed scenes from the series now available on screen. I just love the whole show for its unique appearance. The slow frame rate which gives the anime the air of a lesser fluency in movement is not because of its lesser quality production, it's the choice of the producers to make it original by making it look slow-animated and different from the ultra designs that nowadays are so popular, like Demon Slayer and Attack On Titan(examples of great shows which utilize a high frame rate refreshment as opposed to the Duke of death and his maid ) and it's not a standard to have the same animation style for all anime in general. Another reason why this show has such a low rating would be the misinterpretation of the plot as simplistic, too slow paced slice of life which the majority considers and tags as "boring", without fully comprehending the lightness and the originality this show brings to the table. The characters are not plain as everybody says and the tricks the maid repeats towards the Duke are not just repetitive, the maid is very perseverent and loyal in her sentiments to the duke, and the duke never ceases to be surprised at the sight of her leg because it's not about flesh desire,but it's about continuous, steady, childlike, innocent, pure hearted love which is not consumed over time once they have physically known each other(even from a distance, the duke never gets bored at the sight of her leg, even if he has seen it a hundred times or has been seeing it for ten years every day). Their love is everlasting especially because they have broken the physical boundaries by not being able to touch one another, their love exists only as a soul to soul connection, as the physical part has never been in the spotlight for them to be the most important motif behind their falling in love, so they never paid attention to physical beauty as a "must have" in their relationship(something the Duke would never dare say would be "I love Alice only for her looks") . That's why Alice teases him by showing her curves, she knows that she only embarasses him, as he is attracted only to her personality and does not want to take advantage of her physically or in anyeway, she is the world to him and wants to protect her no matter what, thus being he himself ashamed when she makes jokes about her body parts, as he loves her in a pure way(purely, innocently) . This is what I' m saying, if a show does not have lots of action scenes, is not fully packed with blood and explicit mature content, all wrapped up in spectacular graphics, people just don't appreciate it and move onto the next one,in a ravaging consumerism style. And if the show does not excite a great amount of emotion, like bursts of laughter, again, it is labelled as dull or low quality, and receives very bad reviews and very bad scores. It's painful to think that so many shows are forgotten about, are abandoned by the producers and that so much quality material is thrown away not being developed into anime or further promoted, that so many TV series and manga series are cut off mercilessly even when they are high quality just because they don't produce enough money. And it's all about this consumerist society who dictates what is "good" content (which sells and produces huge profit) and the rest, which is given up and eventually fades away with the passing of the years. So next time when you rate a show, even if it's a 1 or a 10, please take your time and analyse your decision : Is this show this bad so it' s worth a 5/10? or Is this show that well-made and its plot so well developed that it's worth a 10/10?Think carefully, because many people may suffer at your hand because of one, apparently insignificant, score.
