In the 1980's there was a "kit car" company called "Prova Designs" that made a Lamborghini Countach replica SO accurate that, unless you were actually familiar with the REAL one, you would be fooled into thinking it was legitimate, down to the interiors emblems, wheels etc. Only when you looked "under the hood" would you realize that you had been faked out. The company of course never claimed they were official, but, poseurs would often try to pass them off as such.

This is the vibe I get, so far, from this new "Trek" series, and, while I am usually one to defend new iterations of Roddenberry's love child, in this case, I keep feeling that I need to "slow my roll" and check under the hood to make sure I'm not being, as they say, "trizzed". In this case, some subtle, SJW "woke" nonsense being passed off as legit Star Trek, by presenting the usual hat tips and recognizable visual cues in a fancy, tarted up, but ultimately artificially feeling package.

From the unprofessional way even new recruits address each other, much less senior officers, to the comical Vulcan courtship convo, and escaped aliens running around the decks like a Benny Hill episode, it just feels "off". I can't quite yet put my finger on it, and, I am willing to give it a few more episodes in the hopes they find their stride, but, so far, other than the SFX, I will have to withhold my wistful enthusiasm until I see what else unfolds.
