I know _some_ people don't love the idea of monsters and lore but it fits really well and expands the universe in a way that works - why can witches, wolves and vampires exist but not other mythical creatures? Vampires and wolves come from magic, but other magical creatures are where things don't make sense?!?!?!

It's younger than VD and Originals because they are all in school in this series and are exploring topics about growing up and you guessed it... Learning (as one does in school). Yes, Hope is the all-powerful tribrid but she's also a teenage girl and I think the show balanced those two things well.

The last season was super messy but it's understandable and they did the best they could with what they knew. I'm guessing the Gods were supposed to expand over a season or two rather than essentially a few episodes.

I'll truly miss this show and hope the universe can expand into something else. I would love a spin-off with Jed and Ben exploring the Gods as we've only just touched on it and I think the entire thing was rushed due to the cancellation and we could have delved deeper into the lore.

Will really miss this show but it's definitely on my rewatch list!

I only just finished season 2.

It's not that other creatures don't make sense, it's that VD and TO set up a world with rules, which Legacies broke. The writers found a good enough loophole in my opinion to make it work well enough for casual viewing, but it lost the charm especially TO had for me. This is more a 'creature of the week'-show, when I would have loved to go deeper into the generational trauma the Mikaelson family left for Hope. I'd loved to see more of Freya for example. Or cleaning up old enemies like they did with Kai.

VD also started with Elena & co in school, it still felt different. I loved the story in season 2 with the girls and their merge, because it was something we already knew about in a new generation. I wouldn't have needed the Necromancer to tell that kind of stories. All the other creatures feel unimportant to the real stories (with the exception of Landon). In my opinion all the other monsters are only a 'cheap' way to introduce new mystery elements to the story. I call it cheap, because it's easier to write a creature of the week episode than be restricted to the rules set in the first 2 shows.

The show-writers always want an even bigger bad going forwards, but how do you create an even older vampire when you already told the story of 'the first vampire(s)' twice? The creation of the pit made it easy for them to introduce more threats, but I don't think they made the best of that (yet).

Maybe I'll change my mind during the next 2 seasons, but that's my opinion now.
