This show was so confusing as a kid... How dared they rip off The Ghostbusters and pretend they were the real deal. And what's with those REAL GHOSTBUSTERS, why are they called REAL if they are the actual Ghostbusters.

@mansemat The makers of this cartoon probably trademarked ghostbusters first. That's why the other one is called REAL GHOSTBUSTERS.

@mansemat I was confused like you back then, but this TV show is no rip off of the famous Ivan Reitman movie of the same name! Show and movie were coaccidentally produced at the very same time without knowing from each other. The show was finished earlier and aired a few months before release of the movie. The movie makers were really upset about this coincidence, but they also did not reserve rights on that name because the production was done fairly secretly for different reasons and so they had no chance to do anything about it. In a first reaction, they considered to change the name of the movie Ghostbusters. You can find footage in the Ghostbusters documentary movie showing that they even printed new signs to mount at the Ghostbusters headquarter to see how they will look. At the end, they hated all alternative names they tried and decided to pay Filmation for the right to use the name of the Ghostbusters show for their movie as well. So yes, show and movie have nothing to do with each other except that they accidently share the name.

Beside this, the Ghostbusters show is really fun to watch. I did a rewatch recently and still enjoyed it a lot as a "classic". The show is not very similar to the Ghostbusters movie and later show franchise at all which at the time of production wasn't even known to exist. If I should describe the show, I think it is much inspired by the Scooby-Doo franchise with the twist, that different as in Scooby-Doo, ghosts do actually exist in Ghostbusters.
