I couldn't finish this one and stopped at episode four because the relationship just made me really uncomfortable. I couldn't feel anything for our leads as a couple, and ended up hating George for how her coming out is treated. I'm just super tired of LGBTQ+ media constantly behaving as if the person who is being hurt by being kept in the closet is being unreasonable and should have more sympathy for the person not out/stay with them. George led Mae to believe she was out, that her friends were aware of her, and, meanwhile, literally lead her friends to believe she was dating a guy. When called out, she blames her friends and never takes any actual responsibility for all the harm she caused to Mae. Then there's the whole "promise you'll never leave me" conversation. George just came off as really needy and toxic, while meanwhile, Mae doesn't seem ready for a relationship at all and, while this can cause get drama, the framing just felt really off to me without enough recognition. Mae is constantly blamed for everything and it felt like none of the characters had real sympathy for her. Not bad necessarily, just too depressing for me, and I prefer to see LGBTQ+ media that has a more complex take on coming out for both sides.
