If someone asked you to show them a typical example of a giant monster movie from the '50s or 60's, you would be well served to show them "Yongary, Monster from the Deep". While it's true that it was not made in Japan but instead in Korea, it follows all of the required beats for any city smashing monster movie. And it does so in an entirely ordinary and unexceptional fashion. The beast called Yongary is a totally generic man-in-suit, that smashes uninteresting and minimally detailed miniature buildings, bridges, etc. There's also some extremely thin characterizations and the typical screechy, annoying little boy who's sympathetic toward the rampaging lizard. I kind of like the earthquake scenes and even though I knocked them in the paragraph above, I did like some of the miniatures, primarily the tanks and planes. "Yongary, Monster from the Deep" isn't worth seeing for any reason other than checking it off your giant monster movie list. Well, I have one of those so I was able to check it off mine.

A great Korean kaiju movie from 1967. The camera work was average, but the special effect was great of course not up to par of today's effects but for the time it was good. I didn't like the design of the monster much but the way the actor acted in it made it look natural and not cringy like some ka More
