There was scope for a better movie but the satire is too heavy handed and the plotting is sometimes silly. It’s still watchable but it’s wise to lower your expectations.

This is very slow and predictable, the concept is a very old-school concept of segregation. Someone else said the scripting is bad. He gave it too much credit.

Another meandering movie with stifled dialog and stunted acting. This movie takes forever to get to the point.. and when it does you'll be disappointed.

Verdict: Skip this movie.

Having really loved Elle Callahan's first feature Head Count, I was very excited to see this. Overall I really enjoyed this one. The film explores a world where magic is real and witches are persecuted by US authorities. Claire and her family are part of a network that helps witches escape across the border. When their mode of transport is disrupted by federal witch hunters, they struggle to hide two young witches within the walls of their home and Claire discovers that she may have more in common with these witches. It's a bit heavy handed on the allegories and the connection between minority groups and witches in the film doesn't entirely work but the overall concept is really strong, the performance from the lead is great as well, and even with the inconsistent execution it still manages to keep me invested in the narrative.

[Sitges FF] The film makes obvious the representation of witches as the metaphor about the persecution of those who are different, presenting white female witches that are turned into refugees. This political discourse of the obvious also speaks to the threat of female power and the sorority of "Thelma and Louise", but everything is so unsubtle and the visual fx are so surprisingly bad that the message remains weak.
