Vera-Ellen was an incredible dancer, but by today's standards, her appearance is both sexy and a bit creepy. It makes you wonder if she might have been using some kind of drugs back then. Holiday Inn 1942 also with Bing is the better movie, Marjorie Reynolds is more fun. **European Christmas Classics: A Quick Overview** In many European countries, certain films have become holiday staples, much like *White Christmas (1954)* and *It's a Wonderful Life (1946)* are in the U.S. These festive classics air 100% each Christmas across various European countries, creating the same nostalgic atmosphere: - **Sissi Trilogy (1955-1957)** - **The Sound of Music (1965)** - **Three Wishes for Cinderella (1973)** - **The Snowman (1982)** - **Gremlins (1984)** - **Scrooge (1951)** These films are replayed annually, ensuring that European audiences enjoy their own festive classics every holiday season, just like Americans with their Christmas favorites.

Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye brighten up the season with the holiday musical White Christmas. When two music producers scout out a sister duo they end up following them to Vermont where they run into their former army commander and decide to put on a show at his inn. Both Cosby and Kaye give good performances and work well as a comedy team. Also, the songs and dances (though contrived at times) are well-done and bring a certain energy and charm to the film. And while it may get overly sentimental at times, it has a positive and an uplifting message. Whimsical and fun, White Christmas is a heartwarming family film.

This is my all time, favourite, Christmas movie. Not to be confused with HOLIDAY INN (which is also a favourite) just because it has Bing Crosby and the music of Irving Berlin (and a revamp of the set of the Inn), it has a different story line and a different dynamic. HOLIDAY INN was a song (Berlin/Crosby) and dance (Astaire) production, WHITE CHRISTMAS is both of those items (sub in Vera-Ellen and some outstanding male dance partners) but also has the pure tones of Rosemary Clooney, the comedic genius of Danny Kaye and Mary Wickes, stunning ensemble choreography, a beautiful love story (or 2), a heartwarming premise and the advent of VistaVision, which was an innovation in colour and clarity in film (a fledgling technology that was a precursor for today's HD quality). I whole-heartedly give this film a 10 (perfection) out of 10. [Romantic Musical Comedy]

The singing and dancing were great. Everything besides that was just ok. I wish it was more Christmasy.

[9.0/10] *White Christmas* is a flashy movie. It is awash in luminous color and elegantly constructed sets. Its lead characters travel across the country to put on wildly successful shows. They do it all while wearing stylish, luxurious outfits perfectly tuned to the setting and the moment. The then More

May your days be merry and bright!

I really enjoyed this film and it was a privilege to see it for the first time in a good old fashioned cinema, the Roxy Cinema in Ulverston. 64 years after its initial release in 1954, and the film still has the power to pack them in. The cinema was almost full More

Danny Kaye is much the more natural here as he ("Phil") and successful partner "Bob" (Bing Crosby) hook up with the aspiring sister-act team of "Betty" (Rosemary Clooney) and "Judy" (Vera-Ellen). The latter pair have a gig at a remote Vermont inn, and so after some shenanigans on a train they all ar More

I am not a fan of musicals, but if I am to watch one I prefer this type: where the story is told in dialogue, interrupted and built onto by the songs. The movies that are pure music — including dialogue, threaten to cause me to slide out of my chair onto the floor and stare at the ceiling.
