Everything about the plot is bad. Bad decision after bad decision with a healthy dose of incompetence. From the people planning the mission to the people on board. Noone was capable of making a well thought out decision. Raising children that may be homosapiens, but weren't human. They had no connection to Earth. No connection to their humanity. They never experienced growing up. They were isolated from everything. How were they expected to succeed? No parents to care for them. No exposure to disease to build an immune system that will be necessary to pass down to their offspring so that the grandchildren could actually survive on a planet without succumbing to the first bacteria or viral equivalent because their immune system has never been used. No conflict to develop conflict resolution skills. No interpersonal skills because they are robbed of their feelings and thus can't empathize with anyone. Nothing that would allow them to develop and adapt to situations as they arise. They have to follow a handbook for absolutely everything. Why were they bred from intelligent donors if they weren't trained to actually think? And things do not improve from there...

Richard saw a need to go, but failed to do what he needed to do to protect the crew. I had hoped he would see through the crap planning and mission parameters and change things, but no.

Christopher is the most incompetent chatacter I have seen in a long time. He didn't succeed at a single thing he needed to succeed at. He can't lead, he can't persuade, he can't fight, he can't plan, he can't protect... At least Tye Sheridan can act and did a good job at playing the character. There was depth and nuance to the character even if the character was written as an anti-hero.

Sela has fair decently written. She had a good head on her shoulders and made fairly good decisions overall. It's too bad she was relegated to a support character.

Zac was just pathetic. There was no depth to the character and it was obvious what he was going to do at every step. Completely predictable. His mind game was pathertic. It was so easy to see through. Trivially easy. How everyone else of the supposedly smart individuals on board didn't see through something so obvious is just bad writing. The character was so bland and lame, there was nothing for Fionn Whitehead to work with. It was an abysmal character that really ruined the entire movie.

And the fact that we had most everyone on board turned into complete animals doesn't fit with our current understanding of aggressive behavior, which shows that the tendencies are inherited (50/50 nature vs nurture). Nurture definitely didn't contribute to the aggression given how they were raised so it was nature, which goes back to how selectively bred individuals would be aggressive when the planners were suppose to making the most docile and capable individuals they could. It makes very little sense. Sure maybe one or two could slip through the donor selection, but fifteen? That is just bullshit writing.
