An ancient troll awakens in the Norwegian mountains and wrecks havoc and panic.

*Godzilla* meets *Troll Hunter* in this fantasy action that explores Troll folklore and actually has a good political message. Great design for the Troll and the CGI looks amazing. The dialogue is cringe at times and it's predictable. Acting was ok. Had some fun watching this, the pacing was satisfying and wild third act. Decent action flick, what's there to Troll about?

@batsman It's the closest comparison I could find but they're quite different from one another. *Trollhunter* is mockumentary found footage while *Troll* is more serious. I think you can appreciate both if you like trolls in general though it's acurate on the folklore.

Definitely enjoyed it from start to finish! A fun and entertaining folklore-inspired film that captivates the imagination of its viewers, regardless of age, gender, or ethnicity.

A very generic "kaiju" movie, just in a different place. Nothing new here, nothing at all. Gave me overall. a Godzilla (1998) flashbacks, with some of the same moments and even camera shots. The characters were also quite bad. The same ones from all the similar movies.
I would also recommend that the authors get up one morning to see the sunrise. I presume they never did that at all from what I saw here. From the height, the troll would see the sun quite sooner than the people on the ground.
Old Nordic folklore/mythology in a modern guise. Well implemented. Good special effects and good sound effects.
I liked that there were images of Theodor Kittelsen and also the story with the return to the royal castle and the emerging Christianization of Norway, against which the trolls feel a natural hatred.

I also liked the beginning: Mankind pushes too deep into nature and thereby awakens something ancient.

Which also fit like a glove: The scene at the end, which was musically perfectly staged by Edvard Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King".

This leaves a good open end, which leaves the option open for a second part, which will not be easy to implement, however, because in that case a good story must then be told to the end or further.
The story of the film was of course very simple and, as with many films, you already knew what was going to happen. But the sidejokes were funny.

So overall a good and entertaining movie you should watch if you like the Norwegian folklore/mythology topic.

Not a great movie but much better then expected! Would have gotten a better rating if the English voice overs were more emotional!

@sirtwist2 I prefer to watch with original language abs read subtitles because most dubbing in English is horrible that way.

It’s good to see myths and legends put in a modern context. It’s sad to see comments comparing it to Godzilla or King Kong where this is based on Norwegian folklore. Hollywood could learn from this adaptation and others that come out China Korea and Japan

The movie is just average from the very start to the very end. It looks as any other typical generic Hollywood movie with a typical monster, just added a pinch of Norway mythology with the troll.
Nothing much more to say about this movie, probably except the fact that stupid liberal Netflix propaganda reached Norway as well, as we can see. The premier minister of Norway is a strong independent woman, the best computer hacker in the world is a strong independent woman, and the main protagonist is also a a strong independent woman. Thank god they didn't make her father a total asshole, as they like to do nowadays, and he's actually a nice man. Otherwise yeah, the most important men of the country called the science girl to consult (of course) and she says right away to them - are you going to act or keep sitting on your asses? Like she's the boss and they're a bunch of wussies. Same with the hacker girl. She breaks into country's security system like it's nothing and punches the hell out of the panicking man with one blow. Moments like this are just stupid.

Very typical of its genre. Don't expect anything earth shattering plot wise. It's a simple tale with some pretty decent special effects and dumb decisions all around. Perfect movie for when you have nothing better to do with your day.

Good movie. Great sfx. Hollywood should take note with all the shit they’ve been putting out as of late.

This movie was one of the few times or maybe the only time that i can remember that i was routing for the creature as almost every time it was humans that were the bad guys. He didn’t really deserve to die like that. Surely it will not end there as nature tends to correct itself eventually.

Only problem i had was the fat fuck with the glasses. Annoying as fuck and needed to die.

Its so funny when military people keep shooting bullets at something that it clearly doesn’t work on lol. If aliens ever visit us can we all agree not to send in the military first.

This was basically the Norwegian version of King Kong but with a troll made of rocks instead of a giant gorilla and stupid Norwegians instead of stupid Americans. Oh and the Norwegian version of Kate Hudson.

Worth a watch if you like the monster genre, plus the folk lore made it a little more interesting.

It wasn’t amazing with it’s plot and definitely could of been better and slowed down and there was definitely more to show with the trolls but it’s graphic effects were great and over all I enjoyed it and a lot better than the film troll hunter, norwegian directors make some good movies and i would like to see more with the trolls.

The special effects were excellent but the story around them is only so-so. Moments of tenderness are undermined by levity, especially during the final scenes, and the plot is fairly predictable. Still worth a watch but if the script matched the effects work, this would have been a whole lot better.

A troll is awakened from it's slumber and destroys everything in it's path on a mission to go back home. This movie was full of action and adventure from start to finish, with a unique spin on Norwegian troll mythology. Definitely different from anything I've seen before.

The graphics are phenomenal and the cast did an amazing job. I adored Gard Eidsvold's character Tobias and Ine Marie Wilmann did just as great of a job playing his daughter.

The ending left the book open for a possible sequel and as much as I enjoyed this movie, I would love to see it.

I love fantasy, folklore, mystical creatures but this film was not good. The troll did look a lot like Harvey Weinstein, I do appreciate that so 2 points for that and 2 points for landscapes.

Being born and raised on the Norwegian troll folklore and fairytales, and in fact, lived in the valley where Kittilsen painted many of his most famous troll pictures most of my life, Troll ended up being something rather special for me. Was it perfect? Certainly not!! But...It managed to push a lot of the right buttons for me, so the somewhat wooden acting, and rather predictable plot didn't bother me much. I don't expect many people to agree with me on this, but I enjoyed this quite a bit, and wouldn't mind it if any of the local film clubs managed to get this to the big screen. Seriously guys....get it done!!!
