@chim14 Pretty much the case with all Crichton adaptations. Imagine my shock at the age of 13 and finding out what a bastard John Hammond was when reading Jurassic Park for the first time; I know *why* changing him to the kindly old Walt Disney version of Hammond seemed a smart idea for a movie that was already going to be bleak and violent, but *man* I was not prepared for just what a bastard his book counterpart was.

One of *the* most gruesome and well-deserved deaths in that entire novel. Him remembering what the Compies' venom does to their prey -- put them in a narcotic haze so they stop fighting -- as they're beginning to eat his intestines was *brutal*. Anyone who's seen The Lost World adaptation saw a similar death to book Hammond's: Peter Stormare's character's death was almost exactly how Hammond died; fell down a hill and was then swarmed by the Compies, but unlike Dieter, Hammond was too old and injured to fight them off and run away so his death couldn't be seen on-camera.
