"Fight The Future" is a mixed blessing. On the positive side, the chemistry between Mulder and Scully is as prevalent as ever. They are two very likable characters and both actors (but to a larger extent Gillian Anderson) are at the top of their games during the long series' run.

The "mythology" is explained in a manner that makes it as clear as it has ever been presented, which means it's now slightly north of pea soup in clarity. The alien menace has gone from mysterious to horrific. They are nasty and not so little, green men. I thought the direction by Rob Bowman made for a nice looking film, but the action sequences were not exactly gripping. Other than the bombing of the federal building, many of the other moments fell flat for me. The agents' break-in at the bee "domes" was unique in its look, but the following chase sequence through a cornfield seemed to go on forever. Mulder's quest to rescue Scully late in the movie was full of spectacular coincidences. How Mulder managed to locate Scully in the massive alien lair is one for the ages. His timely escape from rampaging aliens and the collapsing Antarctic ice shelf is even more amazing.

As an X-Files fan, it is nice to see the show looking so beautiful on the big screen and the Mulder/Scully relationship is as engaging as ever. These things make it a little easier to deal with the fact that this isn't a very good movie.
