The story follows Akane, a girl with no self-confidence. On the day before her birthday, she meets a mysterious alchemist, Hippocrates, and his student, Pipo, who both tell her they're on a mission to save the world. Together, they set out from the basement for "Wonderland," and Akane finds herself labelled Wonderland's savior.

It was very similar to Frozen 2 in that the visuals are beautiful but the story isn't cohesive. [spoiler] The water ceremony still hit despite this which was nice [/spoiler] but I still wish that they would've worked out the kinks in the story flow. All in all I would recommend, still watchable but only for the art and fantasy concepts and warn that the story isn't 100% there (I've heard others were a bit underwhelmed before I watched but I was mainly interested b/c of the art director).

Like a child's craft necklace of colourful thimbles, plastic beads and painted macaroni on a shoestring, _Birthday Wonderland_ looks nice but is nothing more than a string of random ideas strung together in a clumsy fashion.
