Seriously, the composite score for this is only 76% what the hell? This is arguably the best war movie ever made.

I've never been to any war and I hope I never will be, but if I should imagine what it's like I would think something like that. It doesn't depict war as a series of heroic and great battles, where at he end the triumphant soldiers put their flags on the land of the occupied and the national Anthem intones. On contrary, it broadcasts a true picture of it. Because it is horryifying, and full of blood, dirt, pang, despair, lost body parts and lost comrades. Where you can easily lose your mind, clear judgement and humanity. If I remember right, _Nick Nolte's_ lieutenant was the only one, who represented the world of a mindless war movie with big explosions. Because he was not in action on the battlefield, just made commands on the background and never was face to face with the terror of war. My only concern is that I think it was too long, but it's just kinda nitpicking, otherwise excellent movie.

The directing and cinematography are gorgeous. The music is also quite beautiful. Most of the film though is someone screaming about getting shot or nature b-roll with philosophical introspective narration. For 3 hours, it's long winded and doesn't pull me in like other war films. Not for me, but it's clearly cherished by others.

A masterpiece. Visually stunning, emotionally striking, supported by of the greatest score of all times and an all-star cast it manages to make a philosophical war drama that goes deep in every aspect of the matter. A true classic.

There are bad movies and then there are movies that just aren´t for you. This belongs in the latter category.
Malick came back after 20 years and a who-is-who of Hollywood lined up to get even the slightest part in the movie, offering to work for free and even paying for it. And I don´t understa More

This is a captivating and stunningly photographed depiction of the horrors of jungle warfare. Jim Caviezel is "Witt" - apprehended from some unofficial leave by his Sergeant "Welsh" (Sean Penn) and is interned aboard a troop ship pending court-martial. All of that due process is soon abandoned as th More

Yeah, this is pretentious. And what makes it worse is that in all of it's art house pomp, it doesn't come across so much as anti-war as it does anti- stopping the Japanese and Germans from their genocidal bid for world domination.

It was like they were saying that they are devoutly on the left... More

The circumstances around Terence Malick's The Thin Red Line are sometimes more talked about than the film itself. The reclusive director had made a big splash in the Seventies, but there followed two decades of silence. When he finally reappeared in 1998 to direct this adaptation of James Jon More
