Honestly, is anyone more charming than Jimmy Stewart? I hadn't seen this movie before but was intrigued when I saw it on a Favourite Christmas Movie list. Fortunately, it was playing on Turner Classic Movie channel, so I settled down after my family's Christmas celebration and just enjoyed! Movies from this era of film are more akin to stage plays than the movies now and I so enjoy the craft of well spoken dialogue. The plot is simple and transparent (it's premise was the inspiration for YOU'VE GOT MAIL). The supporting cast is eclectic and entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I give this film a 7.9 (enjoyable) out of 10. [Christmas Romantic Drama/Comedy]

This is one of my favorite Jimmy Stewart movies. This was also the movie that inspired the modern movie "you've got mail" starring Tom Hanks. The back and forth between the two main characters is hilarious and the whole movie is just so much fun!

This was a lovely movie. The writing is funny and engaging. The characters are complex and develop over the movie. Jimmy Stewart is excellent, but it's really all the very funny supporting cast that makes this movie work. It makes you both laugh and cry. The drama is small scale, with basically the entire movie taking place inside the store and on the sidewalk, but it feels realistic and charming because of that. It definitely holds up, even 84 years after it was made.

Frank Morgan is super in this delightful comedy drama. His general goods store finds itself with a new employee in "Klara" (Margaret Sullavan) who has loads of new techniques and a style that manages to irk long time supervisor "Kralik" (James Stewart). What we know from early on is that both are en More

Ah, epistolary love, delightful.

This is the story of Matuschek and Company - - of Mr. Matuschek and the people who work for him. It is just around the corner from Andrassy Street - - on Balta Street, in Budapest, Hungary.

Klara Novak seeks work at Hugo Matuschek's Budapest store, after initi More
