After being evicted from their Manhattan apartment, a couple buy what looks like the home of their dreams—only to find themselves saddled with a bank-account-draining nightmare. Struggling to keep their relationship together as their rambling mansion falls to pieces around them, the two watch in hilarious horror as everything—including the kitchen sink—disappears into the Money Pit.

I'm rating this an unrealistic perfect 10 because the plot wholeheartedly resonates with me and my wife, as it likely will for many homeowners. We both saw this as children and thought it was funny. Then, we watched it as husband and wife, after remodeling our house. It was 10x funnier as adults because we could now relate to the obscene, over-the-top scenarios. The embellishment notwithstanding, similar things can **and do** happen when buying a house, remodeling a house, using contractors, and dealing with each other during said events. This movie helps add some levity to those ordeals after some time has passed, allowing you to, hopefully, look back on your experiences and laughingly tell each other, "At least we didn't have it **that** bad!"

Predictable but the physical comedy is fun to watch. I think you'd enjoy it if you like The Play that Goes Wrong.

A silly comedy classic. Hanks and Long are soo fun playing against each other as this young couple being torn apart by a bad investment. This is comfort food.

Tonally confused direction, a terminally contrived plot and inconsistent character actions make this nothing more than a light 1980s curio. Too bad, because Hanks and Long do show some chemistry here.

Good watch, would watch again, and can recommend.

Despite this movie releasing in 1986, this movie actually dates really well. With the focus being much more on the horror of real estate and property maintenance, things like smart phones aren't relevant to the story. This could easily be reboot More
