At last new Lord of the Rings material arrives that is actually worthwhile, and that's an achievement in itself. War of the Rohirrim transports us back to Middle-earth with an epic and well-constructed story, albeit one that feels a little unevenly paced at times.

Disney fans will have the constant feeling that the film is like Brave meets Tolkien's universe: the indomitable princess who doesn't want to meet a husband, all of this is coupled with warriors, impressive battles and a visual flair that hasn't been explored before in this world. Sure, there are moments where the animation feels a little strange or inconsistent, but when it works, it dazzles. The landscapes, for example, are stunning and really evoke the grandeur and beauty of Middle-earth. The most curious thing is seeing Tolkien's work adapted into anime style. At first it feels odd, but gradually it fits surprisingly well.

Story-wise, it more than delivers. The plot is interesting and has some really powerful moments, although some scenes drag on a bit too long. What is clear to me is that watching it in the original version will be another level thanks to the great work of Brian Cox and Miranda Otto, who are sure to bring a lot of personality to their roles.
