Surprisingly, I liked this. It is over-long, contains some spotty animation, and is filled to the brim with fantasy cliches. But it is also epic, contains beautiful backgrounds, and takes place in a lived-in world. I really enjoyed the art direction. Kamiyama provides good direction, and I like the casts’ performances. The worst thing? The suits clearly mandated some LOTR tie-ins, because they are so unneeded and ham-fisted — it took me out of the story that is actually being told.

I did enjoy the beast Helm Hammerhand, voice acting and parts of the story, but the animation is poor. While the art can look nice on occasion, characters move like stilted puppets; I can SEE the keyframes, and things are very static. Overall, forgettable.

Unfortunately not a great experience. - Clash of visual styles in animation - Many of the characters move like puppets on strings + Soundtrack was great - Wouldn't have watched if it wasn't labeled LoTR, I guess

At last new Lord of the Rings material arrives that is actually worthwhile, and that's an achievement in itself. War of the Rohirrim transports us back to Middle-earth with an epic and well-constructed story, albeit one that feels a little unevenly paced at times.
