A team consisting of a physicist, his wife, a young female psychic and the only survivor of the previous visit are sent to the notorious Hell House to prove/disprove survival after death. Previous visitors have either been killed or gone mad, and it is up to the team to survive a full week in isolation, and solve the mystery of the Hell House.

6.5. It's an excellent haunted house movie, but it loses points immediately by discussing all of the debauchery, drugs, cannibalism, etc but so little of that which Belasco and this house is known for is ever even shown. Maybe that adds to the mystery of it but really all it does is make the film tamer than it should really be. Still, wonderful atmosphere and build up adds to a great story.

It hasn't aged like some of the horror masterpieces of its era but The Legend of Hell House tells an interesting story with great performances. I found the ending to be a little sharp and the scares aren't as present as they may have been in years past. Still a worthy watch for a horror fan though.
