I have so many favourite movies from the 80’s. Was a golden time of cinema. I watched them all as a kid, firstly in the cinema & then over & over again on video including E.T., Indiana Jones, Back to the future, Rambo, Return of the Jedi, Gremlins, Lost Boys, Big trouble in little China, Rocky, Karate kid, Stand by me, Over the top, Pee Wee Herman, Beetlejuice & anything with big Arnie, but was puzzled as to why I couldn’t remember anything about the Goonies apart from the disfigured guy. I’d only watched it once as a kid & had to see it again. I now know why. Firstly it has dated terribly, but more importantly it has no story. The brothers had never been up into the attic until just before moving out of the house, only to find treasure maps, ancient paintings & weird stuff their dad had stored up there without their knowledge! Made me skip through it after the opening 30 mins. No connection with any of the characters. It obviously didn’t interest me as a kid, never mind now. There are so many better 80’s kids films that I can still enjoy today, but this film I didn’t even like as a kid. Totally puzzled by its high rating but perhaps people are rating it through nostalgia, although I realised it was garbage even when I was a kid!

@the-ace-face as a kid in early 90s I watched a lot of movies you listed, my favorites being Star Wars, Indiana Jones, E.T. ad Back to the Future. The Goonies felt strange, they showed us a a group of kids I had nothing in common with (American culture is quite different from the Italian one) and the relationships between characters is something I can't relate to, like it's difficult to understand why these people are friends with each other.
Some jokes felt out of place like the Statue incident...
I tried watching it again as an adult, but like you, I feel it's not a classic like the one you wrote.

Even if it's not my type of movie and I fail to understand the appeal of it, I think your vote (1, as I am writing) is maybe too low.
