Sir Robert Beaumont is behind schedule on a railroad in Africa. Enlisting noted engineer John Henry Patterson to right the ship, Beaumont expects results. Everything seems great until the crew discovers the mutilated corpse of the project's foreman, seemingly killed by a lion. After several more attacks, Patterson calls in famed hunter Charles Remington, who has finally met his match in the bloodthirsty lions.

Strangely, no comments yet. This is one of the, in my opinion, best adventure movies. It is based on real events and, like usual with this kind, takes some artistic liberties. Doesn't take away from the acting and photography which proves, once again, that real locations beat CGI 10 out of 10 when it comes to aging. Of course you can see that the lions are not real but they are made very well and they are a scary adversary. And, to be honest, I found myself a bit on the lions side as they were just defending their habitat against men.

Categorized as horror, not actually horror. Sigh.
Why exactly didn't they set up traps at the lions den after finding it??
It's decent as a suspenseful adventure, but for the most part it dragged too much in spots and got hung up on silly superstition. Some of the effects don't hold up as well these days either.

Overall, I liked this film. Africa has always held a fascination for Europeans, and anyone who has lived there will certainly recognize that it leaves a mark, a kind of spell or enchantment. Anyone who is there for a while never forgets Africa, and alwa More

I loved this movie when I got to see it when it was first released.
Based on a true story (in fact the only part that was made up for is the lions' den scene), this movie breathes Africa due to the incredible cinematography of Vilmos Zsigmond. Africa is as bright and as amazing in this film as i More
