The Fifth Estate is the thriller based on real events about Julian Assange, the man who created WikiLeaks. But this is only one side of the story. This film is based on the book that Daniel Berg wrote. He was a whistleblower of WikiLeaks and subsequently who sabotaged the organization.
In this film we see a obsessed and almost maniac Julian Assange, he only thinks about is ego and he is capable of everything at any costs. The image that this film tried to pass is that Assange is a manipulative and selfish man who only thinks about himself.

I need to quote this line that I found very interesting, at some point of the film Daniel Brühl who plays Daniel Berg says: "When someone is so obsessed with is own secrets could have come up with a way to reveal everyone else's" this perfectly shows that the whole point of this film was denigrate Julian Assange. But is Julian Assange really a bad guy? Did he done something wrong by telling millions of dirty secrets that are constantly being hidden from people?

Well, this is that kind of story that we will never know the truth about.

Now about the performances, the leads are great. Benedict Cumberbatch for me never does it wrong, I love that guy! Daniel Brühl did a very good job also (and I'm still very pissed of that he wasn't nominated for the oscar, for this fantastic interpretation of Niki Lauda in Rush).

It's for sure an interesting story, and even if they'll tell this story in the future based on other people's version it will always be interesting, afterall Julian Assange changed the world in some way and he had the courage to do what others didn't.
Unfortunately what's very bad about this film is that it's a total mess. Many times I found myself confused. The editing style looked cool and original at first but then I got lost. When I was tracking back again, I get lost again and so on... For people who are not into "technologic/computer speaking" some of their explanations, get you more confused than you already were. I've seen complicated subjects told in an understandable way and this is not one of those cases.
Despite all the flaws the truth is that I enjoyed it but I can't give it a higher rating. This film not succeed in many ways and that's the curiosity about the story that makes it interesting not it's execution.

Privacy vs Political Truth? Who wins? What is certain is that this film doesn't do WikiLeaks justice, instead of that it just denigrated it.
