The Curse of the Cat People

_The Curse of the Cat People_ is a rather bizarre sequel that steers the series away from horror and toward psychological drama and fantasy. After Oliver and Alice marry and have a daughter, they grow concerned when she becomes isolated from other children and creates an imaginary friend that appears to her as Oliver’s first wife Irena. Other than the three main characters, there are no real ties to the first film; and there are definitely no cat people or curses. It’s debatable whether there are any supernatural elements at all or if the imaginary friend is just part of the child’s psychosis. That said, all the actors put in a strong performance; especially Ann Carter who has a magnetic screen presence and charm about her. While it has a fair amount of mystery and suspense, _The Curse of the Cat People_ is kind of a mess that doesn’t really work (particularly as a sequel).
