When the space shuttle Challenger blew up in 1986, it was the most shocking event in the history of American spaceflight. The deaths of seven astronauts, including the first teacher in space Christa McAuliffe, were watched live on television by millions of viewers. But what was more shocking was that the cause of the disaster might never be uncovered. The Challenger is the story of how Richard Feynman, one of America's most famous scientists, helped to discover the cause of a tragedy that stunned America.

I'm quite interested in space exploration, astronomy and so forth. In the past I've seen various documentaries and dramatisations regarding the shuttle disaster but never from the POV of the commission and the roles played by those on it. Whilst it doesn't go into details of the failings at NASA and the shuttle contractors (which in my mind should have led to criminal charges) it is an enjoyable docu-drama for those who find these sorts of things interesting. No special effects, no big whoosy explosions and stock footage of the shuttle explosion is used. It did provide me with some information that I wasn't aware of before... mainly that the crew, or some of them were still alive as the remains of the shuttle fell into the ocean.

With no disparagement, I would call this a "Cliff Notes" or "Hallmark Movie" version of the corporate culture of mismanagement, corruption, and intimidation that led to the Challenger, and, in some sense also the Columbia disasters. As @Deleted opined, much of this is now a KNOWN known. What was new More
