Fantastic piece of psychological horror of the beginning of cinema! The atmosphere of the film is perfect and all of the things together, the shadows, the light, the painted scenarios, many objects distorced with irregular shapes, the make up, the acting, all helped to create a bizarre and creepy world. It's incredible to see how things like this, with this great originality could be made in that era.

Watched this for a class on horror films. Really enjoyed the fantastic set design/backgrounds. The ultra stylized look is iconic and hard to forget. The actual story, while probably fairly unique at the time of release, is old hat now. Still highly enjoyable and worth at least one watch.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is a wonderful and highly influential film. It was not only the first in the horror genre, but it also pioneered the twist ending. The imagery and set designs here are remarkable. This picture is not just worth your time, it deserves it!

Absolute banger of a movie that fires on all cylinders from start to finish. Especially having watched the very dreary
Shutter Island
recently, this is an example of how to do the story right.

Freshmen year of college was great. I really enjoyed the film history class, but there was one disadvantage to the first semester. It took a long time to get through silent films, and frankly a lot of them can be really, really boring in long spurts.

Then we got to (96 year old) Caligari. This mo More

[8.0/10] There’s plenty of reasons to watch *The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari*. Maybe you have an interest in film history. Maybe you want to see one of the jewels of the silent era. Maybe you’d like to watch one of the pioneering works of the horror genre. My reason, though, makes me a little sheepi More

This is the worst movie I've ever watched 15 minutes of. Lars von Trier once said he knew at the latest fifteen minutes into a movie whether it was worth continuing, and I took that advice to heart, so here we are.

Okay. Seriously. SERIOUSLY? Yes, 102 years ago, "cinema" was in its early years. S More

“The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” must have been a solid ten out of five stars when it came out a century ago, and it still holds decently nowadays despite dragging a little in the pacing. Sketchy and naive as it may look now, the plot anticipated countless cliches of modern cinema, and even has one More
