_Street Trash_, what is this? Listed as comedy, and horror; it's both, but also neither. Does it have funny moments? Sure. Does it have all type of vile gross-out moments? Oh, you bet your ass it does. Trouble is, it never leans one way or the other to truly fall squarely into a genre. How about a melt movie? Yes, it definitely fits in there. One could also call it a cult movie. I think both of those sub-genre names give a good idea of what to expect, but only in the minds of fans of weird genre films.
This is a long way of saying _Street Trash_ is a wild ride. It's hard to define, but it's going to greatly appeal to people who love insane, trashy cinema. It has elements that reminded me of _Bad Taste_ (1987), _Repo Man_ (1984), _The Evil Dead_ (1983), _Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky_ (1991), not to mention every Troma film ever made.
The movie is absurdly violent, but in a funny way. There are great practical effects. There is piss, vomit, necrophilia, nudity, and a rousing game of catch... with a severed penis.
As for the story, there really isn't one; it's more like a collection of scenes. We sort of follow Fred, who looks like he could be Torgo's little brother - see: _Manos: The Hands of Fate_ (1966) - as he navigates the harsh life of living in a garbage dump. There are several characters here, so the movie jumps around a lot. We do have an interesting villain here, by the name of Bronson - great name, by the way. We also spend time with a cop, a wannabe gangster, and a doorman - played by James Lorinz from _Frankenhooker_ (1990).
Anyway, the movie is a lot of fun. It's surprisingly well made. I also get the feeling it was trying to say something about how we treat the homeless, and war veterans. Perhaps I'm reading too much into it.
So, yeah, if you're easily offended or don't like gross, trashy movies, stay far away. For everyone else, I totally recommend this one.
