Since when do they allow pathetic depressed morons into space? The dude encounters a bonafide alien that he can communicate with and he does not even ask it a single question? What kind of a retard astronaut is he?!?! I was praying a Klingon would show up and gut the doofus. Not sure why the alien kept calling him skinny human… he’s fat turd. Despite all my negativity the movie was touching and did have some charm and I was entertained enough not to turn it off. Dang he is dumb till the end and the end sucks. Worst astronaut of all time.

This ain't sci-fi or thriller.... It is purely a boring drama which rotate on single point (illusions and family relationship)

With age comes wisdom I like that Adam Sandler is taking challenging roles. He is showing his talent. As for the movie, I will be fair I did not understand what it was trying to do. To all you smart people out there this will be a MUST WATCH, but it was not for me.

>Where you go, I go. Right Spaceman?

I really, really wanted to like this one. It pushes all my buttons as far as aesthetic and underlying subtext is concerned, but it just never feels complete in its delivery. Mumblecore stretched to its absolute limit, but with a surprisingly shallow subplot when all is revealed; a shame because it had all the hallmarks of a new favourite for me.

Mixed emotions on this movie. On one hand, Adam Sandler isn’t actually playing his singular and tired old role and he does OK with it. This is not a stellar performance, by any stretch, but it’s good for Adam Sandler.

The movie is very “out there” and the movie moves pretty slow. I’m a big sci-fi nerd and appreciate the visual effects and some of the science, but it’s obvious that
he’s losing his bloody mind with that enormous spider that appears just as it’s obviously he is losing his mind.
I’m glad I watched it but doubt I’ll ever watch it again.

I think a spider was the perfect alien. Genuinely a bizzare creature that freaks people out no matter the size, all from fear. Fear is the mind killer. It's a genuis way to bring 2 characters who are planets away from each other together. Giant spider? Small spider? We still fear it's perceived threat when we shouldn't. Yes, we should be careful, but we have no right to kill it, although it's our first instinct. We all have the same beginning and end. Giving a spider humane quality's is genuis and to have THE Paul Dano voicing it? And idk about you, but I see myself as a spaceman who sees himself as a spider. The spider doesn't have to be real because it changes nothing. The end is how it was meant to be.

*Enemy 2: Space Loneliness*

What in the eight legged skinny human Goromped was this?! A psychological drama in space where a lonely astronaut meets an alien spider shrink buddy to work out the problems in his life. It threads into a bit of camp territory for me whenever the spider is on-screen talking or doing weird stuff. It's confusing when you get serious pep talk existential drama at the same time. Add a bit of horror cause that spider is creepy as hell... you get a very weird mix of tones. Confusing but entertaining and unpredictable?

I have to say it's an original concept at least and the sci-fi elements are intriguing. The ship set does the job, good spider effects, Adam Sandler is alright (doesn't necessarily get much to work with) and Paul Dano's voice was perfect for this. Didn't like the bits with the wife on earth, I don't think those scenes were even necessary. They tried doing a double drama on earth and in space but the movie's at it's best when it focuses on our two friends in space and that should have been the only focus.

So, it was basically Eternal Sunshine of the "Pink-Spotted" Mind.

Not bad, but definitely not really worth the watch.

That's it. Everybody is comparing the Movie with Interstelar. But it gave me way more of a Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind feeling.

Oh man, this messed me up on another level. Such a beautiful comfort movie. Everything about this is comfortable, even the scary things. So creepy yet so cute, so strange yet so wise. The writing was so well done as was the execution. Every time I thought 'it's falling flat', I was proved wrong. It made it more cosy in a way. That as well as the score, all the sounds, all the acting, all the animations and cgis, all the everything. Ugh, I can't get over the wisdom and mystery behind this. Netflix has more misses than hits, but the hits really do hit. It's like an original copy of Interstellar. Life and mind altering type movie. Best Netflix movie of the year.

Yes yes, it's Interstellar but from Netflix...
But honestly I kinda liked it? A retro-futuristic Czech spaceflight with Adam Sandler delivering a decent acting job that got me more intersted in the book it's based on - which apparently has a very different ending too? That might be worth a shot!
Hanuš is wonderful tho!

So what’s the ending in the book? The ending in the movie was not great at all imo.

@hirkiti I'll just copy and past from the Wiki article on the book and spoiler warning for anyone wanting to read the book or even watch the movie haha.
Jakub passes his time with Hanuš while getting reports back from the spy he hired to follow Lenka. When he finally reaches Chopra, the dust particles tear open his ship and he decides to spend his last moments with a dying Hanuš, whom he has grown very close to. At the last moment, Jakub is rescued by a Russian shuttle, where he meets three other cosmonauts. They explain that they are from a secret Russian program and that once they land he will be imprisoned. As they are landing, Jakub escapes with the help of one of the cosmonauts who claims to have met Hanuš as well. The escape attempt causes the ship to crash, with Jakub as the only survivor. He learns he was pronounced dead to the world and decides this is better for both him and Lenka, who he believes is happier without him. He travels back to his childhood home, where he decides to live the rest of his life.
@mellowb Thanks! The ending from the book is sooooo much better. I’ve always heard American audiences dislike sad endings and it’s true that there are many instances of sad endings that are changed to happy by Hollywood. I guess Netflix is guilty of that too.

Nothing new here - an Astronaut figures out he is selfish and misses his wife and has Daddy issues (Ad Astra) A strange gas or ancient space dust at the edge of the galaxy used as a plot point for our protagonist to see a loved one again - oh and throw in a beautiful scene of the some reeds being washed gently by a lazy river .(Solaris)

I survived this movie end to end so you don’t have to.

This is what happens when you spend weeks prompt crafting your way through a movie script with ChatGPT. There’s not a point and the joke is on you while you’re struggling to grasp what must be some profound meaning. I found myself literally wondering at one point “wait is he gonna f*** that giant spider?” Or wondering when the needle would drop and this would become what everyone expects from an Old Man Sandler movie. It’s like they know what an art film looks like and they are trying very hard to copy the look, but ultimately this is an Adam Sandler movie with no jokes in it.

Jesus! I couldn't even make it through the trailer it looks so bad. Have mercy on anyone who actually endures the full length of this PoS.

Ever since Adam Sandler started making movies for Netflix, they have gotten worse and worse. He isn't even funny anymore.

***Adam Sandler has sucked for years now***
