Like sleeping with a knife, there's not a lot of action but it lurks in the shadows and it'll get you more than once. This Asian horror film feels like a cross between folklore and a modern ghost story, replete with shamans and spirits and omens. While it's no doubt more slowly placed than most will like (it's very reminiscent of The VVitch), the film succeeds in creating a mood, building that mood and then living and dying there. Even better, considering the number of children who populate this corner of the darkness, the Malaysian movie isn't as merciful as its Western counterpart might be.

This Malaysian folk horror is a quiet mood piece that's light in story but heavy on atmosphere. It ramps up the chills very slowly and can get quite disturbing in a way I'm not quite prepared for. It does a fantastic job creating and maintaining an atmosphere of dread and utilizing its minimalistic setting. You can feel ominous threats around their rural home and there's an inescapable quality to it. Having scary kid in it adds to the overall creepiness of the film. I wish I would have been more emotionally invested in the story and characters but overall it delivers enough chills and there's just enough story to built the premise of why the characters in the situations they are in.

This isn't your typical 'Malaysian Horror' movie as it has international audiences as target written all over it. The story, visuals, screenplay and environment was simply amazing! Movie reminded me of the movie 'The Witch' a lot. To be honest this movie was deservedly nominated as the Malaysian's submission for Oscar. 8/10
