Sick of Myself is a hilarious, absurd Norwegian character study about terrible and selfish people. The main character is a pathological liar who reeks of narcissism and self-loathing, hence the title.

The movie has one joke throughout; the main character is a narcissist doing selfish things, and certain things go wrong for her in a comedic fashion. Although, if it went on longer, the joke would be repetitive. But with the runtime we got, the jokes were still funny and bizarre in execution. All the performances from everyone were naturalistic, which adds to the realism, despite how ridiculous everything is and, in some way, makes it funnier.

It's horrific what someone will do for attention and love. We see how she makes her health worst. Consuming pills that harm her skin and health, making her appearance horrific and sickly so people can stare at her on the street. In contrast, others can attract sympathy, leading her to be described by the media as “brave” and an “influencer” for people suffering from those conditions, making her actions and lies even more disgusting. She constantly lies about having allergies to certain foods, even though she does not.

Her face is deformed as her skin gets bloodier and sorer, and her true horror is more visual. There is a little body horror, which was fantastic to see. The need to be the center of attention is the sickest illness that anyone can have. She was mentally unstable. The most exciting thing about her as a character, she will not learn or develop because, in her belief, she is never wrong. However, like all great bastards and bitches in movies, you cannot stop watching them.

Oh, one part I thought was hilarious was her daydreaming about her funeral and how missed she will be. In her daydream, it gets so crowded with people trying to attend the church they give grieving guests an entrance ticket stamp you usually see at music festivals, but the ticket stamps are black cross. Or how there is a list for those invited to tick off to those attending. It was freaking hilarious.

Overall rating: if this is interesting or up your alley, check it out. Well, if you can find the movie anywhere. Maybe on a streaming platform if it gets added. Either way, look out for it.
