Decent movie, not the best scream. I liked Emma Roberts and I did enjoy seeing Kristen Bell stab Anna Paquin. The biggest crime this movie makes is killing Alison Brie so early.

It blends the line between self parody and serious sequel and I think that blend is fun, although I understand the hate it gets.
There are some pretty bad moments like the one with Anthony Anderson though that make that blend feel more rough around the edges.
Still better than Scream 3 imo.

Go back in time and don't cast Anthony Anderson and the movie would be better lol. He was totally over the top trying to be funny like he was in yet another Scary Movie film.
The beginning also plays for laughs too much. Once a real killer actually does show. It was less satisfying than one of the Stab film murders.
The film also has the biggest identity crisis of the films not knowing if it is a Comedy or an actual Horror film.
Scream 4 isn't really bad but Wes Craven deserved a better last film. I am happy that My Soul to Take wasn't his last movie at least...

3 Thoughts After Re-Watching ‘Scream 4’:

1. It’s a _Scream_ movie, so I love it. But there’s definitely a disconnect here from the trilogy… as I finish my marathon of all four films. And I think it’s because our legacy cast gets vastly underused here. And when they _are_ used, they’re not given a lot to work with. And, Kirby aside, the new cast of kids are just plain forgettable.

2. The highlights here are the beginning and end. The jab at endless horror sequels is amazing, and it’s a fun and appropriate way to return to the franchise. The ending was not traditional for a _Scream_ movie, but it was refreshing. And it put the spotlight back on our fave trio.

3. All in all, _Scream 4_ continues giving this incredible franchise a solid run. Most horror franchises and sequels are not so lucky. I hope and pray that the upcoming fifth outing doesn’t fail us either.

Bonus Thought: “Don’t fuck with the original.” Amen, Sid.

Scream 4 brings the series back on form. It's well aware of the meta and the genre and its all handled with style. Seeing Sydney coming full circle and not being the victim (as we saw her arc culminate in last film).
Some great red herrings and bait n switch. Also watching this 10 years later, Kirby is way gayer than I remember. Love it.

Wes Craven did it again. It's official that Scream franchise has zero bad films and Sidney Prescott is the most powerful protagonist in horror films! I liked this better than the third. This one reintroduces itself to new generation, brings fresh ideas to the franchise and effortlessly blends those freshness with nostalgia. It definitely lacks some of the humor of the originals but I loved the direction this one took with the meta approach. It's mostly unpredictable and has a lot of twists and turns. I love the new and returning characters, love all the horror film references, nice to see Pegg & Frost made an appearance. I was laughing hysterically when I saw Robert Rodriguez name as a director of Stab! It's been a great time watching all sequels, now I'm ready for Scream (2022)!

Scream 4 was like a phoenix rising from the awfulness that was the third film (or is turd film more apropos). Perhaps overpraise but it DID right the capsized franchise

So, I've been watching once again all the movies in Scream franchise and this one used to be one of my favorites. Now, I don't like it as much as I did before or at least as much as I thought I would.

The opening scene is cool, there's Kristen Bell and Anna Paquin as characters of Stab 6 or something like that. We have all the self-awareness and metalanguage of the horror genre and previous films, it just doesn't seem so fresh or new though. There's some interesting observations of the contemporaneous way of making horror films, but nothing beyond that.

I liked the new additions to the cast, Emma Roberts did a good job. The old characters still remain entertaining.
The ending is pretty satisfying, the revelation is good. Jill's plan and her reasons for doing that make some sense, although she's very much a psychopath. The scene where she inflict damage to herself is really good. And the killers stabbing each other plan never works.
It is a good movie, but the previous ones did it better and before Scream 4.

Scream 4 is but another uninspired horror film that’s more about cheap scares and less about story. Returning to where the series started, the film finds Sidney going back to Woodsboro on the anniversary of the original murders and Ghostface coming after her family. Campbell, Cox, and Arquette return once again, and are joined by Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, and Rory Culkin. While not as insulting as Scream 3 was, this chapter seems needless and repetitive. There are some clever callbacks to the previous films and the kills are rather intense, but the characters are too underdeveloped for any of it to have much of an impact. Scream 4 fails to revive the series, and instead delivers a mediocre horror film that offers the same old Scream formula.

How did Peeping Tom start the slasher genre - opposed to psycho when

a) No one knows it
b) It premiered 7 November 1961 in the US, while Psycho premiered 16 June 1960.
Yes, peeping Tom premiered 7 April 1960 in the UK, but since pirating movies wasn't really a thing back then, psycho clearly started the genre (while it wasn't the first - at least in the UK it wasn't...)

The killer clearly didn't do his due dilligence - researching his questions...

It does feel good to go back to the original home town years later. While not as good as the first 2, it is better than Scream 3. While webcams every where seems a bit tacky, I found myself intrigued. The main thing I hated is that GOD AWFUL glow filter used. Looks like a dream sequence in a soap opera. They need to Release the Craven clean cut.

I’m surprised they did back to back movies where the killer was her family. I imagine a lot of people guessed she was the killer as soon as it was revealed she was Sidney’s cousin. But this was okay, there was nothing for me that really separated this movie from the rest.

This time we’re making fun of reboots, so it’s self-conscious repeats of the past with amped up gore and lots of jokes about how old everyone is (and it was bizarre watching these back to back; in 1-3 only the hair changes, but now they’re suddenly all looking like their own parents).

I think the series peaked with the first movie, but this one was surprisingly fun. As always the postmodern elements are just window dressing; no real attempt is made to engage with social media, copycat crime, generational conflict etc and nowhere near enough is made of the live-streaming element. But the cast is fun even when they’re playing hateful idiots (Alison Brie) or don’t make any sense as written (Emma Roberts).

Real curious to see the new one tonight, everyone is presumably on walkers now.
