Rock'n Roll is a French comedy starring writer/actor/director Guillaume Canet writing, directing, and starring in a film about how hard it is for him to find a film to write, direct and star in.

The rather long Rock'n Roll is, in fact, two films in one. The first one is a classical "actor's midlife crisis" comedy which is not without a few chuckles, and the second is a social satire on plastic surgery, ageing, and the movie business. The second half is the weakest, as the running gag gets old faster than a Hollywood actor.

There are also a number of under-used cameos by Canet's mates (only French icon Johnny Hallyday's is noteworthy), and his wife's (Marion Cotillard) supporting role serves only to make us wish the film were about her instead.

In a nutshell, there is not much new to Rock'n Roll, and what is new gets old fast.
