I think my expectation for this movie was set by the cool poster art that shows the monster attacking the Golden Gate bridge. I've been fooled by poster art before. I'm thinking "Grizzly", King Kong '76, or even Godzilla vs. Megalon. But WOW! "Reptilicus" is bad. The acting is horrific, especially the General portrayed by Danish "actor" Carl Ottosen. Maybe he's not a bad actor, but were they trying to make him one of the biggest asswipes in movie history? (well, at least Danish movie history)

The story itself starts out interestingly enough, with a drilling crew boring into some skin, meat and blood. It's even a little gross when they clean the remains off of the drill bit. But that's where the story loses its momentum, which is too bad because that occurs in the first minute. After that, it's the typical beast-that-thaws-and-grows cliche. A regular paint-by-the-numbers, old-style kaiju flick but with horrendously bad monster effects. They're so awful that they have to be seen to be believed. Reptilicus is nothing more than a dragon puppet slid around within miniature sets. I say slid because moving legs are never shown. I saw the API version which notoriously added a green slime effect that shoots from the monster's mouth. It's really terrible. There's so much stock footage you'll think you're watching a Forsvaret documentary (thanks Google!).

I think this is actually the worst giant monster/kaiju movie I've seen. Still, I give it a star because I always have fun with this genre. By the way, I watched this movie and not the new MST3K spoof.
