Bad, bad sequel. Rec 2 is not what Aliens was to Alien. Rec 2 is not what Terminator Judgement Day was to Terminator. Rec 2 is more like what Demons 2 was to Demons or what Friday The 13th 2 was to Friday The 13th. Rec 2 is simply not a good movie. Sure, it has triple the bloody-faced insane people jumping out of doorways and running at our faces from dark hallways, sticking their gory faces into the camera, but without any context or plot all of this mayhem just isn't scary. I guess they had to force this movie into its first person camera point of view to call it Rec 2 but the camera work is so forced and shaky and upside down and stereotypical, and stupidly pixelated and shoddy, and at times it unnecessarily cuts to black for nothing but effect, that the camera work does nothing but insult the audience's intelligence, I mean, other than making us dizzy and nauseas. The original Rec stands its ground and one of the best first person horror movies of all time, better than the original Blair Witch Project, scarier than Cloverfield, and most certainly more engaging than its remake Quarantine. But Rec 2 is just a frantic mess of undeveloped characters and confusing points of view. You'll have more fun playing some version of the video game Doom, which looks the same as a good portion of this movie. Rec 2 is a lame excuse to put a few more people into that building and to try to the explain the mystery that, when left unsolved, made the original movie so intriguing.
