Obviously not on par with the original, but it's a damn fine sequel, especially one that was churned out of the 80s. Explores some interesting themes, and has fun with concept. Perkins is great and makes you sympathise with Bates. Plus Meg Tilly is quite nice on the eyes.

A compelling psychological thriller, Psycho II picks up where the Hitchcock classic left off. The story follows the release of Norman Bates from a mental institution as he attempts to reintegrate back into society, but forces conspire against him as he once again hears Mother’s call. The writing is rather impressive and finds a nice balance of honoring the Hitchcock classic while also exploring new territory. Anthony Perkins and Vera Miles return, and are joined by Meg Tilly and Robert Loggia. Additionally, director Richard Franklin does a pretty good job, though he’s clearly not up to Hitchcock’s level. Full of intrigue and suspense, Psycho II is a strong follow-up to a masterpiece.

I'm almost certain my dad showed this movie to me when I was younger but I didn't remember anything so I'll consider it a first time watch. I've heard that this sequel is really good so the low rating on IMDb surprised me a bit. I really liked it from the start. When Norman Bates was released, I was certain he would have a cliché evil villain smirk on his face before continuing his killing spree. I found it very refreshing that he really tried to become a better man. Seeing his POV of hearing and seeing his mother added to the mystery of being not sure whether he was going crazy or if someone was messing with him. I didn't see it coming that Mary and Lila were trying to get Norman institutionalized again and I thought it was so clever. The ending with his actual mother was unnecessary to me but then Norman came back with the shovel and that was so shocking I was okay with it. I'm interested in seeing what Psycho III will be like!

We all go a little sequel crazy sometimes.

22 years after the murderous and maniacal events at Bates Motel, Norman Bates, freshly released from a mental institution, is back home; and the spectre of ”Mother” is waiting to greet him.

We could say it was a cynical attempt at latching onto th More

When phantoms of the past won’t let you live in peace

After 22 years at an asylum, Norman Bates (Anthony Hopkins) is declared sane and released, which is radically opposed by Lila Loomis, AKA Lila Crane from the original movie (Vera Miles). Norman goes back to his deceased mother’s house & mo More
