The Freeling family move in with Diane's mother in an effort to escape the trauma and aftermath of Carol Anne's abduction by the Beast. But the Beast is not to be put off so easily and appears in a ghostly apparition as the Reverend Kane, a religeous zealot responsible for the deaths of his many followers. His goal is simple - he wants the angelic Carol Anne.

Solid sequel, works just as well as the first, even if it's not reviewed as well for some reason. Reverend Kane is such a great, iconic villain. The cast of the family is so engaging and real, they're what make these movies work as well as they do.

There's two great things about this movie: Julian Beck, and the creature effects. Everything else ranges from forgettable to "stinking pool of filled diapers". > (_Indian chanting_) :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Admittedly, I was harsher on the original Poltergeist than most reviews. It felt extremely dated (it is 40 years old after all) and lacked any truly defining character to me. The sequel did the same, but less. It feels like a noble sequel of its time. Returning characters, similar plot, but ultimately lacking in various areas. I feel if you like the first a lot, you will find this serviceable. If you are like me and didn’t love the first, this one won’t be for you either. Rating: 2/5 - 6.5/10 - Not Recommended to Everyone

The original "Poltergeist" is one of the few films I've ever rated a '10'. It was scary funny and suspenseful. "Poltergeist II: The Other Side" is none of these things.
