I like Found Footage movies and it was fun to see another one playing in theaters. Too bad I never cared for "The Blair Witch Project" though, because this is a spittin' image but with high school students getting lost while being taunted by lights in the sky.

"Phoenix Forgotten" is slooooooow. Personally, I have no problem with that but this will not play well with the targeted PG-13 audience. Actually, it probably won't be an issue if no one goes to see it. I was the ONLY person in the theater I saw it in.

This is being categorized as a Horror movie, probably because a Documentary or Science Fiction tag won't pull in the teenies that, after seeing it, it was made for. The documentary style continues until about the last 15 minutes and then mercifully, answers are slowly revealed. The last moments are unnerving, loud and chaotic, but not scary.

One of the most encouraging takeaways from "Phoenix Forgotten" is it somehow manages to avoid jump scares entirely. When a PG-13 horror movie lacks even a single jump scare, it must mean that annoying substitute for genuine scares is a trend that's fallen out of favor.
