On Chesil Beach

Let me tell you my motivation for watching this movie. I am a big Saoirse Ronan fan. That does not mean I like everything she is in. [spoiler] The movie is not awful, it is well made and all the performances are solid. But the story passes by me. 1962: We see two people on their wedding night trying to have sex and we learn through flashbacks how they got to this point. Up to this points I have two issues with the movie. I don't like flashbacks and especially the, for the lack of a better term sex-scenes, are unwillingly comical. So, things turned sour and since they can't get past this problem they split up. We then see in two short leaps into the future what becomes of them and they meet for a final time at the end. [/spoiler] It is a sad story but on an emotinal level it didn't touch me because I never made a connection to the characters and their story.
