Marg Helgenberger playing Earl's wife was a funny little nod to her time on CSI considering how much forensic knowledge Earl and Marshall have.

God, I forgot how good William Hurt was in this; his giddiness as they're driving to the murder reminds me *so* much of him as Richie Cusack in A History of Violence. God, I hate that he's gone now; didn't matter the role or the genre, he just had such a commanding screen presence, even in his Aaron Ekhart doppelganger days like in Broadcast News.

I just went through another Better Call Saul rewatch, and and after Earl tosses the photos into the kiln and leans up against it, all I can think is, "Holy shit, Bob Odenkirk really *does* look like Costner" LMAO.

"Hi, my name's Earl. I'm addict." Whoa, My Name is Earl took a *dark* turn.

Dane Cook as the peeping Tom blackmailer was an interesting casting choice. This was deep into the era of studios attaching him to *any* bad comedy. And I'll admit that his involvement in this movie was why I skipped it in theaters until a friend urged me to "forget about Cook and just fucking watch it!"

I kinda like the fact that this is one of the few movies where a character with dissociative identity disorder can openly speak to their other personality without the other characters knowing/hearing that. Being able to openly interact with someone other characters can't see/hear is an interesting wrinkle, because that's almost always a huge problem for characters with DID in movies/TV shows.

Okay, that may have been a super stupid movie on Demi's character's part, but it probably *did* feel good.

You're blackmailing a guy you know to be a serial killer, Mr. Smith. Dunno why you thought you'd feel safe sleeping in your apartment again after he immediately worked out where you lived.

If you think it's odd that a guy like this could have a marriage and genuinely care for his daughter, just read up on Dennis Rader (the BTK killer); dude was so careful -- until the end -- that even his wife and daughter had no idea or suspicions about him leading a double life. "It's my body and I'll do what I want with it." Probably not the best person to say that to, Jane, but you're right, and good on Emma for just giving the smallest "not like this" gesture to her husband; that's a good wife and mother right there.

This "hunting" moment in the car is exactly why my friend told me to ignore the Dane Cook connection and just watch it, because this was so out of type for Dane Cook's usual roles in 2006/2007.

Damn, doesn't matter if it's the Fast and Furious franchise or any other movie: car windows are the universal "safely catch their fall" mats in action sequences.

A veteran serial killer trying to mentor a budding killer in the form of Dane Cook is one of the most unique parts of this movie; it's not so much Hannibal Lecter manipulating Will Graham, it's much less cerebral than that, but it's reminiscent. "Even if that guy was charming and funny, I still wouldn't like him." LMAO, the meta commentary on Dane Cook was perfect from William Hurt.

Ah, the something big that Marshall's been expecting all this time was what actually happened to the BMW Jane said a friend had, that she's now saying was stolen. Could Earl's precious, innocent daughter have the same addiction? Is it something that can be passed down like "the gene" alcoholics talk about? And now we see Marshall being the same "protector" that "Edward Alderson" was
to his son Elliot and Tyler Durden *wasn't* to Tyler Durden.
*Fuck* William Hurt is so good as that little voice in your head urging you to do something stupid. Ope, and look at that, *now* he's trying to be the voice of reason, for once.

While it's not the smartest or best-written "serial killer *almost* gets away with it" movie, it's still pretty damn good thanks to the more-clever-than-usual writing and the performances, specifically Costner and Hurt. But that fucking
"not an actual twist" was so tacked on it pretty much kills the entire thing.
