An engaging life story, sad and depressing for the most part, but full of funny little details everywhere. It never gets boring. This is stop motion animation with a pleasing detailed and semi-realistic visual style and colourful characters.

Highlights include Pinky's biography and Gilbert's family's cult.

Just a bit of an annoying plot hole though. One of the main themes is the separation with her brother, and this it's exaggerated in a wth manner to make it look worse. They're separated, but they write letters. She knows he's in a bad family with very little freedom and yet, she's waiting for him to do something and join her. While her situation is somewhat pretty good, and yet, never does she attempt to go to him. I mean, ok when they were kids, but 10 or 20 years later ! And on the other hand, when
he finally escapes, he lets her think he's dead, (well maybe he doesn't know she's been told that), but he ignores her and stop writing, for what ? A decade ? When his last letter was that he was coming to her wedding
. Seriously, What. The. Fuck. ?

I kinda wonder why she had snail poison available at home with her love for snails. Also, these poor snails spent decades in a small jar ? Again, what a poor treatment coming from someone that loves snails.

The bit about her husband was a bit cringe.

A kinda funny (but maybe not deliberately) moment, when Gilbert is introduced, and it's said he want to be a street performer in Paris, you think that wow, that's a kid with a personality and original dreams. Then it turns out it's what their dad did, and it turns into the most banal thing ever.
