Gorgeous color photography, but the songs are mostly forgettable and the story is not too interesting by any standards. I had a tough time staying engaged despite the beautiful visuals. 4/10

I absolutely love this movie!! Easily one of the greatest musicals ever made featuring 2 of my favourite songs, "The Trolley Song" and of course, "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas". MGM really gave this their all with 5 star choreography, costumes, and production with a simple, relatable story set in the early 1900s. There's never a dull moment. I was entertained the entire time. In fact, by the time it finished, I was left wanting more. Even in an ensemble cast like this, Judy Garland stands out. The amount of talent she had is just amazing. Also, you could tell how much Vincente Minnelli loved and adored her, because she has never looked so beautiful, youthful, and full of energy than in this film. This is one of her best performances, after The Wizard of Oz & A Star is Born.

I thought this was just lovely--wonderful, nostalgia-based film that reminded me a tiny bit of "How Green Was My Valley" in POV (if not in tone.) Judy Garland turns in a genuine performance, and the young Margaret O'Brien was super fantastic in a role that could have easily been annoying (also have to give a shout out to her supreme weirdness with the dead dolls and beheaded snowmen.) The songs here were somewhat unremarkable, other than the Trolley Song and of course the magnificent "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."

I just watched this movie for the first time and had how lighthearted and funny it was! Songs are great, and the Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas scene will always bring tears to my eyes. I enjoyed this one.

The trick with this film is not to look for anything serious or complicated in it. It is an engaging early 20th century bit of Americana - a charming costume drama peppered with gentle comedy, some fantastic songs, and Judy Garland probably the most comfortable in any role that I have sever seen her More

A bit of cake and a song to blow away the wind of change.

A film that is firmly ticking all the boxes for those looking for a family classic to admire and tap your feet along with. This delightful musical deals with one family and their struggle to deal with the changing of the times at the turn More
