MaXXXine doesn't have the X factor.

Unfortunately, disappointing. I'm convinced that A24 executives forced this film into existence. X and Pearl were very well received, so we must definitely make another film! For me, it's clear that West had no idea for the character of Maxine after the events of X. Everything here boils down to tributes and playing with the 80s style, but it lacks that additional element present in those other films. In Pearl, Mia Goth simply shone and made that film five times better than it should have been. Here, she is just a pretty addition to a weak story. She only has a great audition scene at the beginning, and then she has basically no scenes to show off her skills, which is a great pity because I think most people will come to the cinema to see if Mia can surpass herself from Pearl. During my screening, a few people left about 5 minutes before the end because they already knew there was nothing to wait for...

But to be fair, I have a weakness for the 80s style and always like it. I commend West for how impressive the film looks and sounds at times. The opening credits set to ZZ Top music made me want to give it a 10/10 ;) . Unfortunately, it's a shame that a good story didn't follow those opening credits...

The previous films got 8/10 from me, so a significant drop in quality.
