From Zhang Yimou I liked particularly Red Sorghum, and Raise the Red Lantern. This not that much, an historical film based on intrigues, plots and knives, confused in its development, and based on historical elements not really interesting outside China.

Fate brings several people together at night after the assassination of the ambassador. Ministers, a guard, a commander, a dancer and a viceroy. Are they who they seem? Until dawn, only 2 hours to choose between honor and life, shame and immortality. Like in a theater, we will see almost everything in real time. Almost a masterpiece, only the heap of twists and the attention required when viewing can prevent the recognition that Imou made his best film since Hero.

A very ambitious and beautiful one from legendary YIMOU, which requires a lot of attention to the plots and dialogues, as intriguing and layered as Tarantino's Hateful Eight, but not as easy to grasp as it because this one has too many changing scenes
