One of the few action blockbusters you need your brain for! Like "Blood Diamonds" it is very disturbing and brutal but (as with BD) this helps to tell the story and make it more "believable". Cage does a good job (which is rare I think) as an unconscionable weapons dealer and Hawks an even better one as INTERPOL agent. Highly recommendable!

Agreed, this is my favorite Cage movie.

The second one is Face Off, and the third is National Treasure. xP

Personally i think this is Nicolas Cage his best work. He plays the "business is business" driven Yuri Orlov perfectly.

I really enjoyed the first part where we see the timeline of a bullet from being assembled and manufactured in Russia to smuggled to Africa to killing a boy no older than 15 in some town in Africa.

This movie definitely belongs somewhere on the top 50 list of anyone who has one of those lists to begin with.

Lord of War did not age well. I enjoy the story, but the direction feels tired. The narration, in particular, was a bad decision.

It's a good movie but I would have preferred if the narrator hadn't been so present. The voiceover is interesting and full of memorable quotes but in movies it's better when things are shown rather than told.
I hope they will do a remake with darker and noir tones and no narrator.
It would be a perfect subject for directors like Michael Mann or Denis Villeneuve.

I love this movie. Interesting fact it was cheaper to buy real guns than fake ones. Most if not all guns are real!

Ok movie but it didn’t have any of the usual Nic Cage craziness. It had way too much narration, the most I can ever recall in a movie. Could have been an audio book.

'Lord of War' is such an overlooked and underappreciated gem.

The opening scene alone with 'Buffalo Springfield - For What It´s Worth' playing in the background is everything a movie needs to do to hook me. Cage and Hawke are both terrific.

This has to be one of the better Nick Cage movies. It rips out any of his usual humor and/or craziness and gives a straight drama performance. The story is rock solid, the supporting cast is quality, and Cage kills the lead. Is it the best thing in the world? Not really. I think Blood Diamond is a better version of a comparable plot. But it is a great movie to show the range of Cage. Also, I probably never would have thought to get around to watching this without my Movie Club, but I am glad I got a reason to check it out.

Rating: 3.5/5 - 8/10 - Would Recommend

Man, what a great movie. Of course it has an educational undertone. But i liked it, because this kind of movie about this topic is rare. Really rare.

And it's a great performance from the whole cast. Cage but especially Eamonn Walker (André Baptiste, Liberias President).

A real gem (no pun intendend).
