An okay movie. The setup was extremely flimsy compared to the creepypasta, and had many elements that I think were just there to try and pad the story out and make it more interesting. The introduction of family, brotherly squabbling, and a special needs uncle were not necessary at all. The end of the film is great, but the real climax of it was dumb and nonsensical and came out of left field.
Spoiler, the sounds in the cave were coming from weird humanoid cave creatures that are covered in rotting flesh or poop or something. They smell bad and this is only conveyed by Ted throwing up; no one ever actually says "oh my god that smells so bad, what is that".
The main difference between this and the creepypasta is obvious. The creepypasta was incredibly mundane until it very suddenly wasn't, and left most of it to the reader's imagination, then stopped with the reader left to assume the worst. The movie functions like a low-budget horror movie, with jumpscares, monsters, interpersonal drama, a few humorous moments, and then a scary-action ending.

This wasn't a bad movie! I thought the acting was pretty good, and the sound design worked extremely well. The cave, while not exactly like the source material, was appropriately claustrophobic, and more admirable for being built on a set. It just injected several elements to the plot that didn't need to be there. Worth a view once if you like the creepypasta, and don't go in expecting 10-star cinema. I was working an online jigsaw puzzle alongside the movie, if that tells you anything about how engaged in it I was.
