Casey Affleck's debut as a writer / director positively surprised me. The setting of a world without women offers a lot of pitfalls a movie can get lost in, but this was actually a very clean and calm display of a somewhat post-apocalyptic world, that did not rely much on action or panic, but was built on the relationship of a father and his daughter. I do not know where they found Anna Pniowsky, but she actually made that movie work, with Affleck being more of a sidekick. A beautifully told story, with characters you can relate to and care for.

Life sometimes imitates art, and this is the case with this film. Nobody could have predicted that the world would be hit with a pandemic, but this is the situation at the time of writing. And it was when watching this film - the story of a man and his daugher trying to survive after a pandemic - that I learned of a short-term (maybe) lockdown here in the UK. Needless to say, the film took on special resonance for me as I watched and wondered...could we be playing out the events in films like this one in a few months/years time?

Anyway, with regards the movie itself, it was very well done. Casey Affleck has always been brilliant, and so he is here, as both actor and director. Its a moving film, and while it strikes chords of familiarity (it is quite similar to The Road), it still has power. Worth watching, if only to pick up a few survival tips (just in case).

119 minutes of "I hope the post apocalyptic horde doesn't rape the 11-year-old girl."

Kind of a facile way to build suspense. Like a man who settled two sexual harassment suits out of court making a movie about a world where there are no more women.

Another good one from Casey and it’s great that he’s also the director/ writer. It’s a good picture, with some deep/heartwarming moments and peaceful at times also one of them films that doesn’t say much about the back story and would of loved to know more so yeah other than that it was decent and worth a watch. It reminded me a little of the film Road.

The idea was good. The other people saying it gives Last of Us vibes; totally agree. It just felt a bit bland and repetitive. Would still recommend tho!

Right up my street. Affleck wrote, directed and starred in it.....and he's great. It's set in a dystopian world where a disease has wiped most of the females on earth out. So the father daughter bond is the main theme but also has ties to femininity and parenting struggles. And while Affleck's past will no doubt be mentioned given the subject matter, he does a really good job of putting us in the moment. Anna Pniowsky is fabulous as the 12 year old daughter 'Rag' - whose appearance was very 400 Blows like.

There are a few moments which perhaps were a bit unnecessary, and I'm not sure what Elisabeth Moss really brought to the table. But overall it is one of the best of 2019 so far.

_Light of My Life_ is a refreshing take on the post-apocalyptic genre, offering a unique perspective that sets it apart from other films in the same category. The movie follows a father and daughter as they navigate a world where most women have been wiped out by a deadly disease, and the father tries to shield his daughter from the dangers of the outside world. What makes this film stand out is its focus on the bond between father and daughter, rather than just the usual survival narrative. Overall, a good watch for anyone looking for a different angle on the post-apocalyptic genre.

Nothing better to watch during this 'rona pandemic than watching a pandemic movie. I find the story compelling enough to keep me watching the whole 2 hours. The ending though..what's that? **spoiler** he'll just give up his daughter to the "friendly people"? I also find it weird that Casey Affleck wrote, directed, and produced this film..lol

Awesome movie, captures really well the link between a father and his child. Loved the dystopian setting and pacing. Very “Last of Us” which is right up my street.
