Le Samourai could almost been a silent film. The dialogues are few but it as such a visual power that carries you on with a lot of tension until the last minute! It's very stylish! Great cinematography, amazing camera work, beautiful light, great use of colors and good music score! Alain Delon performance remembers Ryan Gosling's in Drive. Jeff Costello is so cool and so emotionless, he never ever breaks his coolness. Probably this character had some influence on the construction of Gosling's character. Interesting. I definitely can see how this film influenced other crime thrillers.

There is an undeniable beauty to this film. In it's meandering and quiet story telling, it tells the story of an assassin with a code of honor that he would rather die than break. Despite the distinct lack of exposition made by the main character, it is never hard to understand what he is thinking and feeling. He wants revenge, but he also wants solace. He gets to feel that solace at the end, when they see no intention of harm in his gun.

Complicated film, with hardly any dialogue, about a murderer.

the physical storytelling is superb. the environment is immersive, real, yet almost renaissance. all the twists and turns, still being put together by people as we left the theatre, were so satisfying to watch unfold. the lonely vibes of joe buck, if he had wanted to be an assassin instead of a playboy. the intrigue of diabolique with a fraction of the dialogue.

Minimalistic but tense, one of those movies where its appeal lies more in the approach rather than the story. Melville's use of grey and dark blue is great, he's almost like a French Michael Mann. For as simple as the story is, the writing is pretty great. The script constantly places the protagonis More

Jef, a meticulous professional hitman, is hired to knock off a Paris club owner during the evening’s entertainment, but his escape is clocked by several members of the staff. Fortunately for the killer, none get a very close look at him, and he’s turned loose after witnesses can’t manage a pos More

Amazing movie! Withstood the test of times. Was watching it with a great interest unlike many movies of this era. Delon is magnifique! Unexpected plot and ending, but the title should have prepared me for it.
