In the early Middle Ages, two Christian knights set off to christen a small pagan village hidden deep in the mountains. Despite the differences in their views and perspectives on religion, the two men become travel companions and create a father-son relationship. As they settle into the local community, their faith, belief system and the bond between them are all put to the test. Soon, love is confronted with hate, dialogue with violence, madness with rules and many will have to die.

Been craving horror movies involving religion and I was really pleased. The production design and locations was really stunning. Two knights attempt to convert savages who believe in paganism. Well-shot and well-acted.

Atmospheric, languid and somewhat structureless, 'The Mute' is a magnificently filmed and subtly political view of the conflict between church and state, good and evil, hate and love, God and the various devils which may emerge in the psyche of men.

This felt so much longer than 1h45.

The visual style is experimental but a failure. It's not in black nd white but it _feels_ black and white, and not in an good original artistic way, just in a looks old and boring kind of way.
