>*"I'm gonna sue you and i'm taking these bowls."* Not as bad as I expected. I'm surprised this amount of cheese got a theater release. Not sure for which audience this was intended, it's not nearly colorful or entertaining enough to be for kids. The comedy is dumb and juvenile and then there's the endless adult crayon jokes and questionnable subtext. But the themes and story are far too silly and childish to entertain adults. I'm not a fan of Zachary Levi usually, I find him annoying but he kinda belongs in a movie like this and he looks like he's actually having fun. The best part by far was Jemaine Clement though, he steals every scene and nails every comical attempt. I'll say, the movie definitely had it's funny moments and the third act was a lot of fun. Wasn't too crazy about the first two acts though. Decent animation at the beginning. CGI is questionable. I can't really work out who's supposed to enjoy this movie. My daughter couldn't care less about the premise or characters and got genuinely scared by the Spiderfly... so here's the first red flag. It bored me to death, and I watched it on New Year's Day, not looking for a particularly thoughtful and intelligently written movie - yet it still failed to make an impression. The premise from the book is somewhat changed, and has completely lost its magic in page to screen transition, disappointingly so. It's full of genre clichés, but what's mind boggling to me is the stuff Harold uses his crayon for... a fucking tyre to fix a flat... really? No wonder my daughter couldn't care less about this movie. It was nice to see Jemaine Clement on screen though... both him and Tanya Reynolds managed to sell me their characters and are the only good points here.

A decent enough family movie. But it fails on many aspects... Major error was the casting. Almost everybody felt like a bad cast,especially the child. I hate the typical trope of a parent who doesn't believe their child in cases where literally everybody would also not believe the child.
