Grave robbing, torture, possessed nuns, and a satanic Sabbath: Benjamin Christensen's legendary film uses a series of dramatic vignettes to explore the scientific hypothesis that the witches of the Middle Ages suffered the same hysteria as turn-of-the-century psychiatric patients. But the film itself is far from serious-- instead it's a witches' brew of the scary, gross, and darkly humorous.

Häxan is great, although a bit too long. The imagery is absolutely fantastic. I would Love to watch this film with a dark and atmospheric score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. That would instantly make this movie a monument in the horror genre, even by today's standards. Scares me just thinking about it.

Interesting watch to say the least! I always thought this was strictly a horror movie, but it actually is a docudrama. Kinda cool, I watched this for the first time on its centenary.

This movie was really unusual in form, and totally bonkers in terms of its content.
